This is a glossary of terms used for raising birds


1. Hatching- is when the young bird comes out of its shell

2. Different birds are called many different things

3. Young chickens are called chicks

4. Young ducks are called ducklings

5. Young geese are called goslings

6. Young pheasants are called chicks as well

7. Young quail are called chicklets

8. Young guineas are called chicks also

9. Young swans are called goslings also

10. Young turkeys are called chicks or turklets

11. Young pigeons are called chicks

12. Pipping is when the young bird starts to peck the egg to get out

13. DO NOT HELP THE YOUNG BIRD TO GET OUT, in any way

14. This is the way they are supposed to get out to make them strong

15. Helping they may actually make them weak and they will die

16. You can remove a part of a shell if it is stuck to them

17. These things are true for almost any birds

18. The fight of getting out is what makes them strong
